Or Concours14 to most of you.
I saw the Kawasaki 1400GTR as being the perfect long distance ride for me. It has also proved to be just that with over 60,000klms so far placed on the two 1400GTR's I ride in the last 11mths. The best multi day is an avg of 1700klms in 6 days. LINK
Now with some very big rides coming up this year and in 2009 I have to get ROO up to spec with an aux tank. Here is my 1000GTR tank setup.
As to my knowledge no one had done a fitting as yet I had to work out the best way to do this. This is what we are at so far and I will update as we go. ________________________
Anyone who knows me or has followed some of my travels know that I run an aux fuel tank on my record breaking 1000GTR, GRIFF.
I have begun the process of getting ROO my 1400GTR up to spec for
bigger rides here but mainly for the 2009 Iron Butt Rally in the US.
I got the fuel tank a week or so ago, its a 5 gal (19litre) JAZZ tank 547-250-005-01
After finding a local company prepared to have a go he is well on the
way to a finished masterpiece of mostly my design. I say mostly because
I came up with
what I wanted and how it would be supported and connected but he did it
better than just a piece of alum plate I had in mind.
This is the rear section which will hold the Givi V46 top box, it
must be further back to allow fitting of the 13" x 13" x 8" tank in
front.
It can be pulled apart in two sections when finished so I can get the tank off and gain access to the under seat area if needed.
The rear extends 90mm longer than stock bike length. This is
important because GetRouted who are shipping it to the US next year for
me have a max length of
2300mm. So that puts Roo at 2360, too long. So the rear section unbolts
within 10mins tops bringing it back to the stock length of 2270mm.
So far, being modeled here by RUKU while ROO sits in the garage.

That looks like a very well thought out set-up, Davo. I hope it works for you.

Not had time to pull the plastics and to the plumbing yet, had hoped to but better get it right that just getting it done. I don't do anything half measure.
I have a ride coming up in 2 weeks and will get to it after that as I have another double crossing of Australia in October, somewhere in the 10,000klm + range with the leg over and back on the clock and two bike meets in between.
Will update this when I have something to report, however I am not expecting any problems.

Davo,
Nice setup; so what is your total volume?
BTW, I bet Warchild is just waiting for you with a full roll of black tape to cover up all those sponsor decals.

Thanks Donald, total is 10.8gal
5.8 stock & 5 gal aux, so its well under max.
The bike in those posted pics is not mine, it's been with me for a year now and looks like being another but it belongs to and is serviced by Kawasaki Australia.
Mine also has stickers as I have had some supporters for a while now, however it will have none at all on it for the IBR as per regs.
This is mine without the aux tank.

All plumbed up now and ready for a 10,000klm + shakedown ride across Australia and back (yes again, 3rd trip this year and 3 last year)

This all looks rather tidy.... good job, to the degree I can tell using photos only.
However, I will mention that those SS-braided lines (Earl's? Or a similar Aussie equivalent?) you are using act like bandsaw against anything it touches while underway. And I do mean everything: seat fabric, cowling bodywork, all are subject to be extremely abraded over time. I can't tell from your photos if the lines are sheathed in clear vinyl or not, but if they aren't, I counsel for you to quickly protect those affected areas before damage occurs.
Also... I need to see a grounding wire attached to a ring terminal that is bolted to any one of your 6 filler cap ring bolts, please. The other end of the wire is (obviously) grounded to the frame.
Overall, this appears to be a very sanitary job, Davo, so good on you, brother!

Thanks Dale much appreciate you looking at this for me. I have looked at so many pics of bikes and aux tanks over the last few years I thought I had it right. Which is why those fine people who take pictures at rallies of bikes are a treasure to me and those of us not there. Pictures of people are good, pics of bikes are worth a million.
I have covered the braided lines where they go next to the bodywork and have done some duct tape to the seat edge but after thinking about your comments I will cover that piece where it exits under the seat with tubing.
Shown here with ground wire, I did it later yesterday. I just didn't have the ring fittings to do it earlier.
Understanding the overflow better now regards no loop or such in the line I will run it out the other side instead of the loop under the tank and out. Shorten it and keep it neater.
btw the braiding and fittings are Goodridge as the Aus distributor John Stamnas has been a sponsor for some time. I also have a braided clutch line from him. Also I fully understand about sponsorship & stickers regards the IBR.
Thanks, see you next August.
