I'm am IBA member who just stumbled onto this and am waiting for the Grand Pooba to validate me.  (No hurry.)

From experience, planning a first Iron Butt is a venture into the unknown.  Although the stuff that lays out the rules, tips, etcetera on the "old" site is a freat resource, this forum is a great addition.

I;ve noticed that sites like MTF allow people to register as volunteering to be an IBA witnesses.

Is there something like that on the IBA site?  If so, it doesn't appear immeidately obvious to me - nor do I think it would be to potential IBers.

My humble suggestion:

If there isn't one on the IBA site or in this forum, then I think it would be great idea to have a volunteer witness list somewhere.

If would also be nice to have a sticky thread at the top of this forum or maybe an obvious link somewhere for people to find IBA witnesses.

Just my .02 from the peanut gallery.

Try this: http://www.saddlesore.com/witness/witness.htm

This link is present in the Saddlesore instructions, in, of all places ;^) the paragraph entitled  STEP TWO: Get a start witness

Fear not, most of us have had a difficult time finding this.  Ride safely.

if i understand the rule, it ought to be fairly easy to get witnesses for non-extreme rides.  the rule reads 'spouse, friend, or someone not on the ride'.  i would be interested in hearing from people who have had difficulties getting witnesses.

Extreme ride or not, I've NEVER had an issue with obtaining a witness.
