Nitron is a better bet for the FJR. I got mine raised a little bit too to help
the turn in. Works very nicely.

Ive been looking at the shorter rear links to raise the rear, but given I HAVENT EVEN RIDDEN IT YET that seems a little premature. I hope, at 21k, I wont have to be swapping suspension components just yet? May pop out now for a quick bimble, while the suns still shining. Im using a vfr800 for work for the moment, sold the old spada, given the vfr was supposedly a sports tourer, it aint arf cramped.

You fjr types, can you hear your fuel pumps? I can, but being a 'dinosour' am unsure if this is normal on EFI motorcycles. She feels like she is running out of fuel, misfire under 2k, reluctance at more than 1/2 throttle, two overtakes were abandoned due to fear she would leave me stranded mid manouver. Shes been stood for 3 years so it may improve, I have put some injector cleaner through it, modern fuel is awful stuff so I do this with anything stood for more than a few months.

Anyway, other than the above, I am really impressed with comfort levels, very quiet 'never thought THAT would appeal', riding postition means visibility is very good and the mirrors are wonderful. Even with badly mis-shapen tyres she seems to handle very well. I took her to 70 on a very twisty B road and all was well.

I wouldn't know if i could hear my fuel pumps or not......

Sounds like you have an issue with the fueling. Low speed 'hunting' has
been reported on some. Mine doesn't. Reluctance above half throttle,
defo not! Try holding mine back when it gets going.......It should feel like
a turbine with the linear power delivery from low down to the red line.

It might just need a good clean through with some injector cleaner and
some new fuel.

Diagnosis complete. The fuel starvation/hesitance and noisy fuel pump issues led to a breakdown. I took the bike for an mot, passed with a heavy rollocking for borderline tyres. I have new but am waiting for a full set of brake pads and plan a day changeing all at once. Anyhoo, the bike was even more hesitant and spluttery than normal, on the way back the bike was losing power so I nursed her into a bike shop I know the owner of, the bike was spraying fuel 2-3metres out of the right side of the bike and a lot was running down onto the hot exhaust and engine, NICE.

Not having tucked into deep investigations with the FJR yet, I managed to remove the tank and spotted...................................................

At some point in the past the tank has been removed, the bike has been stood for 3 years, someone has put some self locking surgical clamps on the fuel line and slid it, without a clip onto the injector feed by a couple of mm. The fuel starvation has been due to the clamped pipe, todays disaster has been a result of the fuel line parting company with its union, how the bike didnt combust is beyond me, the plus is that it led to me finding the problem but has led to the loss of 1/3 of a tank of fuel and potentially, my bike.

The remaining 5 miles home has been a revelation, this thing is a surprisingly capable machine and the sudden increase in urge has really made the tyres feel terrible so I would like to get the bike sorted now, roll on the springtime.

If you're going to swap the dog bones over it will be a
good time to check and properly lubricate the shock
linkages as these are a bit of an Achilles heel on the
FJR. Dealers don't lube them properly as it is a pain to
get at them. Under the main linkage casting should be a
small flat area in the centre. This makes an ideal spot
to add a grease nipple (Yamaha didn't think of that
though!) so I did. Google FJR linkage failure and you'll
be able to read all about it.

Mine all seized up between 20 and 30k and needed all new
bearings and bushes etc, which wasn't cheap as you need
to drop the front pipes and silencers to get to the
bolts. The FJR club workshop will be able to do a
pukka job for you if you don't fancy doing it yourself.

Wow that's one nasty way to try and lower the fuel consumption...

Glad you found it and that you and the bike survived.

Wow! The the guy who sold it didn't think of mentioning that or putting
some red bunting on them so he could remember he had done it?

Glad it's sorted though without anything too major happening.

I am making efforts to get hold of the chap who sold it, funny, I seem to be struggling. Thanks all for the input, I may update this when the tyres and brakes are sorted with a more balanced appraisal.

Well, nightshifts mean slow progress here, I have just fitted bridgestones and balanced them with my shiny new wheel balancing Jig/frame thingy, ncapability to fit AND balance my own now opens the door to MUCH cheaper rubber, wheel balancing has been something I have stuggled with for a while so .

Once wheels were out it seems the fork seals are also shot so just waiting for more 10wt oil to finish off, also suspension lift to do. Doesnt she look sad?

Im told my time would be better spent finishing the skirting boards.
